NLC well-prepared for winter
North Lanarkshire Council is getting set for winter, with gritters already having been out treating the area’s road network as temperatures dropped towards zero for the first time this winter.
Local authority officials and staff at Amey are constantly monitoring weather forecasts and have gritters on standby to respond when needed.
Council leader Jim Logue visited Amey’s base at Bargeddie to see the winter preparations at first hand.
The Airdrie Central representative said: “Our priority this winter is to keep North Lanarkshire safe, on the roads, at home and in our communities.
“We and Amey are set for winter with salt stockpiled and the gritter fleet ready; and in partnership with the police, fire and health services we have plans in place in the event of issues and emergencies caused by the weather.”
He added:“We’re reminding residents to take time now to prepare for winter too; don’t wait until the snow and ice arrive.”
Bruce Lunn of Amey added:“Our experience will ensure the safety and reliability of routes no matter how bad the winter weather becomes – we have the vehicles, road salt and manpower to respond quickly and effectively.”
