Dragons tempted by healthy meals
Budding business brains from Coatbridge High reached the final of North Lanarkshire’s Dragon’s Lair enterprise contest.
Courtney Campbell, Abby Hutton and Amy McWhinnie impressed judges with their healthy food business FV Kitch.
They were shortlisted from the 19 entries to give their pitch at the contest in the Atrium Business Centre.
Their project would get school biology classes growing fruit and vegetables, while environmental and home economics classes develop eco-friendly packaging and suitable recipes.
Pupils and staff could use an app to order the healthy dishes for lunch and break times, with products later being sold to the wider community.
The competition was won by a team from St Maurice’s High in Cumbernuald for their mobile juice bar, while St Aidan’s High in Wishaw were runners-up for their touchscreen educational toy.
Judging the event were business professionals Scott Webb, Sara Budge, Denise Canning, Joanne Telfer and Danny Murphy.
Education convener Frank McNally said: “The ingenuity and inventiveness of North Lanarkshire’s young people is quite outstanding.
“The standard of entries was superb and the Dragons had a difficult task choosing a winner.”
Regeneration convener Allan Graham added: “Given the quality of the applications and the finalists’ presentations, there is no doubt that the spirit of entrepreneurship is alive in North Lanarkshire and that we could see some very exciting businesses in the future.” Advertising Feature
