Young authors make final

- Jean Ward

After much deliberation the finalists have been chosen for each of the three categories in the Advertiser’s inaugural Short Story Stars writing competition.

The 500 entries we received have been whittled down to just 30, 10 in each discipline of pupils from P1-3; 4&5 and 6&7.

Editor Graham Miller said: “As I anticipated, the standard right across the board has once again been incredibly high, which made choosing a shortlist extremely difficult.

“We have some really talented young writers in Monklands, from Primary One kids all the way to Primary Seven pupils.”

And there was no shortage of active imaginations on display.

Graham continued: “During the last couple of weeks I’ve been entertained by wonderful stories about almost everything under the sun, from zombies and ghosts to time travel, fighter pilots and fairies. Some particularly talented entrants even included colourful artwork with their stories which was an unexpected treat.

“Once again I’d like to thank everyone who took part and helped make Short Story Stars another great success.

“Well done to all our finalists and I look forward to announcing the winners in next week’s Advertiser.”
