Il Capo’s double honour at awards
Airdrie’s popular Il Capo restaurant took the annual Italian Awards by storm, scooping first prize in the Best Pasta category and finishing as runner-up in the prestigious Best Chef section.
This nationwide recognition represents a remarkable achievement for the team at Il Capo – given the restaurant has only been open for eight months and this was their inaugural entry to the Italian Awards.
Delighted head chef Sam Abassi said: “At Il Capo we operate as a team with the straightforward aim of pleasing our customers.
“But it was important for me to produce a robust challenge in both categories at the Italian Awards. That said, never in my wildest dreams did I expect to be so successful on the night.
“As the saying goes, ‘you never get a second chance to make a first impression’, so the recognition was very satisfying.
“Il Capo has emerged with great credit which is consistent with how busy we are at the restaurant.”
Sam added: “I’m surrounded by a fantastic team in the kitchen and we in turn are supported by an equally hardworking, outstanding team in the front of house’.
Il Capo manager George Tsamasfyris echoed his business partner’s sentiments and enthused: “It’s official. According to the Italian Awards we serve the best pasta not only in Airdrie or even Monklands, but in the whole of Scotland. That’s what I call pasta perfection!
“At Il Capo we strive to produce the best possible dining experience for each and every guest that visits our restaurant.
“We believe every diner deserves to enjoy fresh food made from scratch, served in abundance but competitively priced.
“We have loyal customers throughout Lanarkshire who prefer to come to Il Capo than travel to Glasgow, which is extremely gratifying.”
George added: “As a business we are willing to pay over the odds to ensure our guests enjoy the finest available fresh produce. We aim to offer the best of everything. From high-quality delicious dishes, complimented by fine wines as well as an exciting range of cocktails.
“The Ill Capo experience is one to savour – and we’re delighted that’s now been made official!”
