Unbeaten sides in first clash of season Comeback comes too late for Eagle

- Mark Pirie

This week’s matches in the Airdrie and District Darts League brought the two unbeaten teams together.

This saw The Eagle clash with The Workmen’s B for the first time this season.

A lack of consistency had been touted as a possible Achilles heel for the home side going into the game.

However, their recent form gave them every chance of taking something from the match.

That was in doubt early on as a poor start saw them trail 4-0, with Scott Gibb on the mark with 15-dart and 18-dart wins which put the visitors on Easy Street.

The Eagle eventually found some form, taking three out of the last four singles games to put them in with a chance of something at the break, but Workmen’s B took the first two pairs matches to secure the points.

Up there with maximum points with the Workmen’s B are Carsons, who were at home to The Swan.

Scott Hammond took no interest in the form table and hit 17-dart and 19-dart wins for the Chapelhall team, which gave them some hope.

In the end that was all they had to show for their efforts, with Carsons winning the match with plenty to spare.

A 180 from Ronnie Rooney gave The Albert Bar something to cheer in their home game with the Workmen’s C but apart from that it was an easy game for the visitors.

Lee Pearson knocked in a 100 checkout while Kenny Campbell was in top form, notching 18-dart and 19-dart wins with a 126 checkout.

Tommy Rodman had 17-dart and 18-dart wins with a 180 and a 100 checkout.

The Albert Bar had few answers to this firepower and the C team move up to third in the table.

The top six now seem to be opening a gap with The Forge and The Clansman both getting good wins, which now isolates the bottom six.

The Forge, with the help of an 18- darter, beat off the home challenge of The Workmen’s A while The Clansman had to fight that little bit harder in their home match with The Boar’s Head.

Ross Walker had given The Boar’s Head every chance with his 17dart win but missed doubles from his teammates later stopped them from maybe stealing a draw in this match.

In the other match Wilson Arms held out grimly to take a point against The Bank Club.

Top man for The Bankies was Scott Hamilton, who had an 18 dart win.
