Young is looking forward to taking on Rodgers after Scottish Cup

Albion Rovers boss Darren Young is looking forward to facing off against Brendan Rodgers as his side prepare for a historic cup tie against Celtic.

The Coatbridge side secured a moneyspinn­ing game against the Hoops with their dramatic Scottish Cup win over Queen of the South.

They shocked the Championsh­ip outfit as substitute Calum Ferguson slotted home an injury-time winner which will earn more than £100,000 for the club.

Manager Darren Young is looking forward to testing himself against the Scottish Premiershi­p leaders and Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers on the weekend of January 21.

“We’ve seen how well they can play this season since the new manager came in,” he said, “so hopefully when they come up against us they rest a few players.

“As a player and a coach you always want to be able to test yourself against the very best and now everyone at the club has the chance to do that.

“That will be a new experience for some of the boys but they have earned it.”

He went on: “It’s It’s starting to sink in now. It’s an unbelievab­leble achievemen­t by the boys and they should be really proud.

“It was a great team performanc­e and Ross Stewart saved uss a couple of times but we defended well and nd earned the win.”

The club plan n to host the tie away from the Exse Exsel Group Stadium to welcome more fa fans throughugh the gates , with Fir Park in Motherwell rwell the likely destinatio­n.

“It’s a massive opportunit­y,” said Yo Young. “It’st’s great for the club and the fal likl fans to be e taking part in a game like this.

“It putsuts us back in the liml limelightt and gets some good pup publicityy at the club.

“Whenn we had the R Rangers and Motherwell ga games there here was a real bu buzz aboutout the club and w we want t to have that again.

“We’re trying to improve the club and improveve as a team.

“We’ve not got ot the biggest support but it’ss great to get a game like this for r the guys that are here week in and week out.”
