Coatbridge High schoolboy actor is tipped for the top
A Cairnhill schoolboy has won leading roles in three feature films in a dream year that also saw him scoop a prestigious award.
David Byrne, 16, will display his talents when he stars in Scottish fantasy- adventure ‘Kingdom: Fall of Illandrieal’, horror movie ‘Skinjacker’ and sci-fi flick ‘Tellurian’, which are all due to begin filming next year.
The Coatbridge High School pupil was headhunted by the makers of all three independent movies following an impressive start to his film career which saw him crowned best newcomer at the UK Screen Acting Academy’s awards in Motherwell.
David’s proud mum Caroline Morrison told the Advertiser: “There was an audition process for ‘Kingdom: Fall of Illandrieal’ and ‘Skinjacker’. He sent in tapes and got accepted right away.
“For ‘ Tellurian’ David was approached by the producer, who had seen his work and cast him as the younger version of the film’s leading man.
“It’s three very different movies and they are all set to start filming next year – all three in Scotland so he won’t have too farf to travel.l
“David couldn’t believe he’d been cast in these movies.
“Next year will already be huge for him as he will be sitting his Highers and National 5 5s at schoolh lb but I’mI’ sure h he can handle it. He is very levelheaded and never ceases to amaze me with his work ethic.
“He’s got quite a following already,al with about 500 FacebookFa followers, and is makingm a name for himself at suchsu a young age.
“And the parts he is getting ar are not just small. He is winning nin roles crucial to the films’ plo plots.”
David has ambitions to de develop his acting skills by joj joining the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art ( RADA) in Lo London or Glasgow’s Royal Co Conservatoire of Scotland in 20 2018, with his best newcomer aw award sure to boost his ch chances.
Caroline said: “It was such an ho honour for David to win such apa prestigious award, which he wa was given for his body of work.
“He is very dedicated to his ac acting and has done a lot of on one- to- one training. This is ho how he started out, by working wi with local drama teacher Da Danusia Zaremba.
“Danusia’s teaching stood Da David in very good stead and he can sing as well as act.
“There is not a day that goes by where David isn’t sat reading asa script and we are very proud of his achievements.
“He is also juggling his ac acting with his job at Guidi’s re restaurant in Airdrie to help fund his acting.
“He’ll never stop working hard to become the best actor he can be.”
