Porn bid to tempt stranger into sex

Blamed booze and drugs

- Court reporter

A Coatbridge man approached a stranger and showed him a porn clip on his phone.

He asked the dog walker how he punished his children before showing him the video.

Now Robert Wilson has been put under supervision for three years.

Wilson committed the act in the hope it would lead to a sexual encounter with the stunned man, who was walking on the canal path between Calderbank and Sikeside Road in Coatbridge.

He then pursued the man and told him to call the police and report him.

Wilson, of Sikeside Road, confronted his victim on March 12. The 41-year-old, who blamed mixing medication with booze for his behaviour, admitted causing the man to view a sexual image at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

The procurator fiscal told the court : “The witness was walking his dog by the canal when he was approached by the accused, who asked him how he punishes his children.

“The accused then showed the witness a video on his mobile phone of an adult male and female having sex.

“The witness called him a beast and took off. The accused then ran after the witness and told him to call the police.

“The accused was later traced by the police and, when asked why he had shown this video to a complete stranger, he replied he was under the impression that if he showed him the video he would get a sexual encounter out of it.”

Sentencing on Wilson was deferred until last Wednesday for a social work background report.

His solicitor said: “Supervision would be of great assistance. He’d be happy to accept that.”

Sheriff Frank Pieri then told Wilson: “I will impose a community payback order involving supervision for a period of three years.

“This will include a conduct requirement that you have to attend the Moving Forward, Making Changes community programme.

“If you breach the order then you can be brought back here and sentenced all over again.

“You will be on the sex offenders’ register for the same period of time.”
