Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser
Thanks for Absolutely Fabulous generosity
Here’s a quick Christmas quiz for you. What do Airdrieonians footballing legend Willie McGuire, amazing character actor Timothy Spall and the absolutely fabulous Joanna Lumley have in common with Advertiser readers?
The answer is that all three, like hundreds of you, have made a valued contribution to the Advertiser’s annual Christmas Toy Appeal.
Willie, Tim and Joanna took part in this year’s appeal by making videos highlighting it and asking for support, with Joanna urging donors to “please be generous and dig deep for the wonderful Christmas appeal. Give, give, give, I love you darlings”.
However, the real stars of the show once again are undoubtedly the Advertiser readers themselves.
Santa and his elves, both little and not so little, have been beavering away all month trying to catch up with all the wonderful donations we’ve received.
The collection points across Monklands looked like Aladdin’s caves, overflowing with toys that will make many childrens’ Christmas just that little bit more special.
The teamwork across Airdrie and Coatbridge has been sensational, with community champions, volunteers and donors all pushing the boat out.
As a director of Spirit Aid, and one of the charities that benefits from this wonderful act of generosity and kindness, I can honestly say that I continue to be surprised and delighted at both the quantity and quality of the donations each year.
There is no doubt that the Christmas spirit burns brightly in our community, and for that we are all thankful.
I wish you all a fantastic Christmas and a wonderful New Year that will bring us all peace, joy and happiness.
