Christmas fayre cash for foodbank

-

Coatbridge schoolgirl Elise Brady used her creative talents to give an early Christmas gift to Coatbridge foodbank.

The 10-year-old made hair braids which she sold at the Christmas fayre at her school, St Augustine’s Primary, as well as running a tombola with prizes donated by family and friends.

She raised more than £70 from her efforts and then used the money to buy groceries and toiletries, which she handed over last week to delighted volunteers at the organisation’s Coatbank Street base.

Dad Sean told how Elise, of Cliftonville, was inspired to set up her fundraising stall after friends had been impressed with the hair accessories she had created.

He said:“She asked her teacher if she could have a stall at the school fayre to support the foodbank and she spent about three weeks making 50 braids to sell.

“I think she was quite taken aback by how much she raised as she didn’t expect it to be that much.

“The people at the foodbank were really pleased with what she had done and Elise had a thank-you letter from them for her donation.

“We and the school are really proud of her. She wanted to do something for other people at Christmas, and we thanked the volunteers at the foodbank too for what they do – they give up their time to help people and do a tremendous job.”
