Club kit deal is ‘a perfect tribute’ to the legacy of Airdrieonians super fan Mark
Airdrieonians’ top tribute to super fan Mark Allison was hailed by our Facebook readers.
The devoted Diamond’s face will be emblazoned on the team’s shirts for the rest of the season, as part of a kit deal with Airdrieonians Supporters’ Trust in memory of the late 49-year-old.
The trailblazing five-figure deal will also see programme and trackside advertising at Airdrie’s New Broomfield stadium go to Maggie’s Lanarkshire cancer care centre and St Andrew’s Hospice – two charities that were close to Mark’s heart during his brave battle with pancreatic cancer.
Elaine Cameron posted: “So thankful to have known this awesome guy.”
Kayleigh Jones added: “A perfect tribute to Mark’s legacy. He would have loved it.”
David Smeall praised the Advertiser’s coverage of the new kit launch: “Well done on leading on this positive story.”
Meanwhile, our Facebook readers also had their say on the news that Coatbridge & Chryston MSP Fulton MacGregor has written to ScotRail’s managing director to raise the issue of rail delays and cancellations in his constituency.
The concerned politician contacted Phil Verster in the wake of last month’s major delays across Scotland, caused by a breakdown at Haymarket and a subsequent “extraordinary set of circumstances”, which impacted on Monklands passengers.
Margaret McNaughton said: “The Scottish government need to take some responsibility for putting pressure on ScotRail to improve services so quickly in the franchise on top of already crippling roadworks. It was bound to cause bedlam!”
Ian Henderson added: “As a daily commuter travelling between Airdrie and Glasgow, I entirely agree that the service being provided by ScotRail is considerably sub-par.
“Far more government control is needed to stop massive profits being made at the expense of consumers, many of whom do not have a viable alternative to rail travel.”
