Social club Activities this week include Sunday night bingo, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes

down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker draw is made at 8.30pm on Sundays, with tickets on sale from committee members and bar staff. Da Capo music group Anyone interested in learning the flute or drums is welcome to attend the group’s band practice on Mondays at the congregati­onal church hall on Broomknoll Street from 6pm to 9pm. Contact John on 07525 064303 for further details on the group.

Marching band Baillies Lane Flute Band practice sessions take place on Tuesdays in the social club from 7pm to 9pm; flute and drum learners are welcome to attend. The Sunday practice has come to an end.

Back Brae Gospel Hall The Sunday school sessions run from 2.30pm to 3.15pm. The breaking of the bread takes place on Sundays at 11am. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is also held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm. Councillor’s surgery Councillor Sophia Coyle will hold her next surgery in the village today in the community hall from 6pm to 6.30pm. Miners’ memorial The Stanrigg Miners’ Memorial is open to all who wish to visit. Due to damage caused by the recent poor weather, the memorial needs repaired or replaced, with many people offering their services to fix it. July 9 this year will mark 100 years since 29 miners lost their lives in the disaster and anyone who would like to commemorat­e the anniversar­y can call 01236 830637.
