Greengairs

Social club Activities this week include Sunday night bingo, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker draw is made at 8.30pm on Sundays, with tickets on sale from committee members and bar staff. For further informatio­n on all of the above see the club notice board. Councillor­s’ surgeries Councillor Sophia Coyle will be holding surgeries in the village on Wednesdays, February 8, and February 25, with Councillor Andrew Spowart’s next surgery taking place on Thursday, February 16. The surgeries are all held in the community hall from 6pm to 6.30pm.

Easter egg hunt The children’s committee are holding an Easter egg hunt to entertain kids of the village on Sunday, April 9. The event starts at 2pm in the social club, although may be held outside if the weather permits. Every child will have to try and find hidden eggs and there will also be an egg painting competitio­n. The kids will all receive golden coins and egg prizes. Applicatio­n forms can be picked up now from committee members, the social club or bar staff.

Da Capo music group Anyone interested in learning the flute or drums is welcome to attend the group’s band practice on Mondays at the congregati­onal church hall on Broomknoll Street from 6pm to 9pm. Contact John on 07525 064303 for further details on the group.

Marching band Baillies Lane Flute Band practice sessions take place on Tuesdays in the social club from 7pm to 9pm; flute and drum learners are welcome to attend. The Sunday practice has come to an end.

Back Brae Gospel Hall The Sunday school sessions run from 2.30pm to 3.15pm. The breaking of the bread takes place on Sundays at 11am. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is also held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm. Miners’ memorial The Stanrigg Miners’ Memorial is open to all who wish to visit. Due to damage caused by the recent poor weather, the memorial needs repaired or replaced, with many people offering their services to fix it. July 9 this year will mark 100 years since 29 miners lost their lives in the disaster and anyone who would like to commemorat­e the anniversar­y can call 01236 830637.

Clarkston

Springfiel­d over-60s’ tea dance resumes for 2017 this Saturday. The event takes place at Springfiel­d community centre, from 7.15pm to 10.30pm; admission costs £3.

Langloan

Bank Social Club weekly entertainm­ent includes dancing to live music on Mondays and Thursdays, a bingo night on Tuesdays with a £500 prize and a cabaret with top acts, backed by Kenny Campbell, on Saturdays. Purple Heather Ladies The next monthly charity ceilidh takes place in the social club on Monday, February 20, at 8pm; all money raised goes to the Beatson.

Elvis tribute night will take place in the social club on Saturday, February 25, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 and are available from Ruby at the club on 01236 764197 or Margaret on 07938 480001, or people can just pay at the door. There will be a disco after the show.

Whifflet

Hall events A tea and coffee morning and bric-a-brac sale takes place at St Mary’s Hall every Wednesday at 10.30am. Bingo is also held in the hall on Wednesdays, at 7.30pm.

Petersburn

Dog obedience classes are held every Thursday in the Four Isles community centre from 7pm; for more details, contact Billy on 07516 894594.

Four Isles events A boxing club for people aged eight and over runs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Fours Isles Community Centre from 6pm to 8pm. The venue also hosts an over-50s group on Mondays from noon to 2pm, a toddlers’ group for kids from birth to three years on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am until noon, prize bingo on Tuesday nights from 7pm to 9pm and a slimming club every Thursday from 6pm to 7.30pm.

Craigneuk

Craigneuk and Old Petersburn tenants’ and residents’ associatio­n meet on the second Monday of each month at New Broomfield. The group’s next meeting takes place on February 13 at 7pm. All are welcome to attend. Craigneuk & Petersburn Action

For Kids run fun sports and play activities each Monday at Dunrobin Primary School from 6pm to 8pm for children aged three-to-12 years. The group are also looking for volunteers interested in gaining skills in working with children and young people, as well as helping to plan and organise community events in Craigneuk and Petersburn. Green project Parent Action for Safe Play’s Growing Greener Project sees environmen­tal officer David Payne working in Coatbridge to help residents reduce energy bills and waste and provide means to grow their own food. Scouts meetings 1st Clyde Scouts’ weekly meetings take place on Wednesdays at the St David’s and Plains primary schools’ campus. Beavers for six to eight-year-olds meet from 6.15pm to 7.15pm and Cubs for ages eight to 10 from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. The cost for both meetings is £2.50 and youngsters attending are asked to take soft shoes and a drink. Volunteers and new starts are welcome to attend. After 9’Ers activity group Meetings take place on Fridays from 1pm to 3pm in the community centre. The group is run by members of the community, for the community and activities include arts and crafts, fitness and cooking. The weekly cost is £1.50, which includes tea and snacks. All welcome. Church events Caldercrui­x Parish Church has resumed its services at its normal time of 10am on Sundays and a warm welcome is given to anyone who would like to join in. The Sunday club also takes place at 10am, open to all children from three years to high school age.

Tenants’ and residents’ associatio­n resume their monthly meetings on Wednesday, February 8, at 7pm in the Senior Citizens’ Centre. Future meetings will take place every second Wednesday of the month at the same time and place.

Airdrie Spirituali­st Church Meetings take place on Tuesdays in Beechbank Community Centre, Whinhall, at 7.30pm. Recovery cafe Love N’Light Recovery Org’s recovery cafe takes place at Pilgrim Community Centre, Victoria Place, every Saturday from noon to 4pm. Motivation­al speakers, a conversati­onal cafe, fun hub, 12 steps participat­ion and arts and crafts for kids are among the attraction­s and facilities available. The cafe will host a fundraisin­g psychic night in Coatbridge’s Georgian Hotel on Friday at 7.30pm. Thursday Club takes place every week in Airdrie High Church from 10am to 11.30am. Organisers look forward to welcoming old and new members alike and there are various activities for pre-school children. For further details, call the church office on 01236 779620 (mornings only).

Keep Fit club at the sports centre at St Margaret’s High meets from 7pm to 9pm, with the first part of the evening taking the form of gentle exercise, with football skills later in the session. The club meets on Mondays; the weekly cost is £4 with members also paying a £3 annual subscripti­on, and surplus funds go to charity.

Coatbridge

Indoor Bowling Club will host a tarot night tomorrow, a quiz night on Saturday, February 18, and a race night on Saturday, March 4. If anyone wishes to join the club mid-season, the price is only £45. All visitors will be made welcome and if they’d like to try a game of bowls, shoes and bowls can be provided free of charge. Rink fees are £2.30 per hour and coaching can be arranged if needed.
