Showcase raises funds for Foundation
A galaxy full of top class entertainers lived up to sky high expectations to put on a spectacular show in aid of the Moira Anderson Foundation.
Over 300 enthused audience members ensured a hugely appreciative atmosphere at the jam-packed Sir John Wilson Town Hall as the historic Airdrie venue hosted the charity’s ‘Night of Stars 3’.
Staff and volunteers with the Foundation – which offers supports for victims of childhood sexual abuse – exhausted their contact lists to deliver a memorable and varied line-up to the stage.
Young Airdrie schoolboy – and popular Advertiser columnist – Ryan McGuigan had the crowd rolling in the aisles with his comedy and impressions set and the Coatbridge-based Grace Notes choir were in perfect harmony as they lit up the town hall with their songbird-like sounds.
The Foundation’s own Colin Scougall and his big band provided a sensational soundtrack to Shotts’ Yvonne Wright School of Dancing’s stirring performance of All That Jazz.
Colin said: “This was our third annual ‘Night of Stars’ and the event continues to go from strength to strength.
“We had some wonderful performers across the show and the audience ate up all of the acts with terrific enthusiasm.
“There were belly laughs aplenty when comedienne Lorraine Summers took to the stage – so much so she has been invited to speak at the Foundation’s annual ladies’ lunch later this year.
“Singer-songwriter Adriana Spina gave an outstanding performance, and we had beloved musician Barbara Bryceland topping the bill.
“Barbara had the audience on their feet at the close of the show and ensured everyone went home extremely happy.
“Mitchell Gibb did an outstanding job acting as master of ceremonies for the night, introducing all of the top quality performers, and the Foundation is also very grateful to the 50-strong Edinburgh Police Choir who travelled from Lothian to impress with their amazing harmonies and repertoire.”
The entertainment extravaganza wasn’t just designed to have toes tapping and tickle funny bones – all proceeds were collected to help the Foundation’s ongoing crucial daily operations.
Thanks to everyone involved in ‘Night of Stars 3’, the Foundation’s coffers have been swelled with an impressive £6064.50.
Colin added: “We are absolutely thrilled with the latest total to come from ‘Night of Stars’ and wish to express our gratitude to everyone who contributed to the cash sum.
“A special thanks also goes to the staff at the Sir John Wilson Town Hall who accommodated all of the technical requirements on the night.
“Events like this help the Foundation to continue to offer support to victims of childhood abuse and the funds will be put to very good use.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone along again next year to ‘Night of Stars 4’; it will have a bit of living up to following on from this year’s outstanding event, but I’m sure we’ll be able to deliver another night to remember.”
