Better Together is melting away

-

As we approach the important local elections, it may be worthwhile to revisit the promises made by the Better Together parties before the 2014 referendum.

The civil service and DWP jobs that would only be safe if we trusted Better Together are melting away like snow off a dyke.

The shipbuilding jobs that were promised courtesy of the MoD have been reduced substantially and are now in danger of being cut completely.

Amendments to the Scotland bill proposed by SNP MPs were systematically voted down with much glee by English Tory and Labour MPs, although making a distinction between these two parties is now almost impossible.

Staying in the EU if we voted No seems to have magically transformed into“you’re coming out with the UK regardless of which way you voted”, and once again Labour joined the Tories to support the Brexit bill.

So much for Labour’s assertion that with the Smith Commission’s proposals Scotland would be“the most powerful devolved government in the world”.

The truth is that powers devolved by the Smith Commission were a sham and the Secretary of State for Scotland admitted this; that“Scotland staying in the UK and leading it” was a downright lie; that it has been proved without doubt that we are not“Better Together”and never will be.

So the choice in the local elections is stark, vote for a party that has Scotland’s best interests at heart, or vote for any of the others (doesn’t matter which one) to see Scotland shackled to a UK which is clearly in self-destruct mode. Gerry Parker Whifflet
