Reveller is hurt after glass attack in club

A nightclub reveller in Coatbridge was hit in the face with a glass during a disturbing incident at the weekend.

Dancers at the busy Hush venue were stunned when the young man — aged just 18 — was targeted just after 12.30am on Saturday.

With the assistance of bouncers at the Church Street club, police officers identified and arrested two 18-year-olds in connection with the assault.

The victim was shaken and required follow-up medical treatment but fortunatel­y evaded serious injury.

Inspector Louise Brownlie, of Coatbridge police office, told the Advertiser: “The 18-yearold was in the Hush nightclub when he was struck on the face with a glass.

“Due to the quick action of stewards and our officers, two men were arrested a short time later. Disorder and violence within our towns and licenced premises will not be tolerated and those responsibl­e can expect to be dealt with robustly through the court system.”

Parents’ letters sent to anti-social youths

A gang of yobs will face the wrath of their parents following a weekend of anti-social behaviour in and around Airdrie town centre.

Officers from the town’s police force sprung into action when reports of disorder on Hallcraig Street and at Airdrie Leisure Centre came flooding in over the weekend.

Inspector Brownlie added: “Airdrie police officers disrupted the anti-social behaviour of a number of youths in these areas following calls from members of the public.

“This resulted in over 20 parent alert letters being sent to ensure parental awareness. Officers will continue with this activity and, where necessary, link in with partner agencies to assist, prevent and deter offenders.”

Pupils face the music over vandalised fence

Two secondary school pupils were in trouble with the law after they vandalised a fence on a Petersburn street.

The youngsters — aged 13 and 14 — were caught thanks to teachers at the school identifyin­g them to police.

The fence on Staffa Drive is now in need of repairs and Inspector Brownlie revealed this was the latest in an ongoing issue with pupils’ troublesom­e behaviour.

She said: “Local officers will carry out lunchtime patrols this week in and around the Towers Road area to provide reassuranc­e to local residents after a number of complaints of school children causing anti-home social behaviour within the surroundin­g area.

“This behaviour is totally unacceptab­le and does no-one any favours, least of all those responsibl­e.”

Man has quad bike seized for off-road ride

A brazen rider had his quad bike taken from him by police due to his dangerous and irresponsi­ble driving.

The 36-year-old man could be forced into a long-term separation from his vehicle after police officers confronted him on Petersburn Road in Airdrie last Sunday.

He had earlier been seen driving the bike off-road and officers took his vehicle from him and charged him with “a number” of road traffic offences.

A full report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal ahead of the man’s date at Airdrie Sheriff Court.
