Roadworks affecting the Monklands area: Airdrie

● CHAPELTOWN ROAD. Closed between Honeysuckle Road and Airdrie Road (B802) between March 6 and 10 for carriageway resurfacing.

● KILLEARN CRESCENT, PLAINS.

Emergency road closure between the junctions with Heatheryford Gardens and Orchill Drive to allow for completion of carriageway surfacing works that were abandoned last Thursday due to severe weather.

Closure in effect until Friday when work is scheduled to be finished.

● BURNFOOT ROAD, WHINHALL. The closure that has been in effect outside house number 17 on behalf of Scottish Water is scheduled to reach completion tomorrow, March 2.

● BAILLIES LANE. Medium impact works outside the Orange Hall will commence today for two weeks.

Coatbridge

● YETTS HOLE ROAD/ BURNLIP ROAD. Closed between the junction with B803, Coatbridge Road and its junction with Burnlip Road, and its junction with Muirdyke Road for emergency work to remove contamination on the road surface.

Work is scheduled to run until Friday, February 24. Alternative route is via Muirdyke Road, B804 Gartliston Road/Coltswood Road, B803 Burnbank Street, Waverley Street and Coatbridge Road.

The same stretch of road will be closed between March 27 and 31 for carriageway resurfacing work. Similar alternate routes apply.

● RYEFIELD AVENUE, DRUMPELLIER. Medium impact works which commenced here last month continue and are scheduled to be complete by the end of March.

● MAIN STREET. Closed between its junctions with Sunnyside Road (Fountain Roundabout) and Academy Street for cable repairs on behalf of BT from March 13 to 15.

● BAIRD STREET. Medium impact works will commence tomorrow and are scheduled to be complete by Thursday, March 16.

High-impact roadworks planned for the Monklands area is as follows: Airdrie

● CHAPEL STREET. Near house number 31 and opposite numbers 129 To 141. Work being carried out on behalf of the Virgin Media Group between Sunday, March 5 and Wednesday 8. ● BROOMKNOLL STREET. Tomorrow work will be conducted by Scottish Water at the junction with Victoria Place.

Coatbridge

● CALDER STREET, WHIFFLET. Work will be carried out on the footway approximately 180m from the junction with Carfin Street tomorrow for one day only.

● DUNDYVAN ROAD. Network Rail will carry out repair work on the railway bridge from this Saturday until March 24.

● WHIFFLET STREET, A725 SHAWHEAD NORTH. Work on behalf of Transport Scotland will take place this weekend.

● M8/A8 Completing the ‘Missing Link’- major diversion of M8 / A8 on approach to Baillieston Interchange.

The major diversion of all M8/A8 traffic (east and westbound) which is needed on all approaches to Baillieston interchange to connect the newly-built M8 motorway with the existing network commenced on Friday.

This major 10 week diversion of the A8/M8 is needed to remove 13,000m² of existing carriageway and 40,000m³ of earth to connect the new M8 to the existing M8, which is approximately 5m higher.

Also, 12,000 tonnes of blacktop will then be laid to complete the M8‘Missing Link’.

After these major construction works, the new M8 between Junction 8 Baillieston interchange and Eurocentral will be opened to traffic.

Commuters are encouraged to continue to plan ahead, avoid Baillieston interchange where possible and use alternative routes and modes of transport.
