Men caught with knives on street Crash motorist fled after Plains crash

Two knife-wielding men were nicked by police in Coatbridge thanks to eagleeyed locals.

The duo, aged 24 and 20, were seen walking on the town’s Heritage Way with the blades in their possession on Saturday.

Witnesses contacted Coatbridge police and officers attended the scene, where they confronted the men.

A subsequent search found the knives and the pair were taken into police custody.

Inspector Steven Miller of Airdrie police told the Advertiser: “These two men were found in possession of bladed articles after members of the public reported their behaviour.

“Both will appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court from custody.” Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorist drove into another vehicle in Plains then fled the scene.

The collision took place on Bruce Street at 2pm on Friday and the male driver responsibl­e was behind the wheel of a black Ford Fiesta.

Inspector Miller said: “Anyone with informatio­n should contact PC Davie Clark at Airdrie police office on 101 or provide informatio­n anonymousl­y via Crimestopp­ers on 0800 555 111.”

Over the limit

A man who allegedly drove under the influence of alcohol in Airdrie town centre faces a court appearance.

The motorist, aged 25, was confronted by officers on Sunday and arrested on suspicion of drink-driving offences.

Inspector Miller said: “The man was arrested on a warrant. A full report has been sent to the procurator fiscal relating to the incident and the motorist’s subsequent arrest.”

Disturbanc­e leads to arrest

A yob who caused a disturbanc­e in Coatbridge at the weekend had to cool off in police custody.

The 35-year-old man was arrested after police were called to Sikeside Street on Sunday evening.

He is due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

Shoplifter snared

An 40-year-old Airdrie shoplifter was arrested in Craigneuk on Saturday after employees from local businesses contacted police. Inspector Miller said: “The man was subsequent­ly charged with several shopliftin­g offences. “He will be appearing at Airdrie Sheriff Court.”
