Lawyer had to call cops over stalker

Client threatened suicide

- Court reporter

A legal secretary from Airdrie has admitted conducting a stalking campaign against a criminal lawyer.

Lindsay Lamond, 30, bombarded Luke O’Curry with scores of phone calls at all times of the day and night.

At one stage Mr O’Curry was forced to switch off his mobile phone for hours at a time, missing many calls from clients, because of the volume of abuse.

Last week Lamond, of Moorefield Crescent, Petersburn, narrowly escaped a jail term for the catalogue of calls to the solicitor, who has an office on Graham Street.

She swamped Mr O’Curry with calls between May and June last year. They included voicemails, abusive messages and sexual remarks.

Lamond also threatened to take her own life during one distressing outburst.

Mr O’Curry had worked as Lamond’s lawyer but dropped her as a client after calling in police.

She was sentenced at Airdrie Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to engaging in a course of conduct likely to cause fear and alarm.

Because the solicitor is so well known at the court, a sheriff from another area was drafted in to handle the case.

Sheriff Simon Fraser put Lamond on an 18-month community payback order and ordered her to carry out 160 hours of unpaid work.

Lamond has previous convictions for attacks on police officers.

In November 2015 she assaulted a male officer at her home.

And in an incident in May last year Lamond kicked a male constable when he tried to arrest her. She then attacked and spat on a female police officer.

Lamond admitted both those attacks but was later admonished by the court.

Mr O’Curry declined to comment on the case, but a colleague said: “Luke is just glad it’s all over. It was affecting his work and family life.”
