A Coatbridge youngster has once again raised the bar for Red Nose Day.

Dance-mad Orlakatie Docherty McLean kicked off her Walking Red Facebook campaign by asking friends and family to take a snap of themselves wearing something red and uploading it on to the site, in aid of Comic Relief.

Mum LisaMarie Docherty told the Advertiser: “I’m so proud of her. She is always thinking of others. She has set a target of £250 and has already raised over £170 due to people’s generosity.”

Over the past four years the nine- year- old has raised more than £2000 for the charity through a variety of fundraising events.

In 2013 the youngster had to have her tonsils and adenoids removed and a grommit fitted in her ear at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Glasgow. She raised over £500 for children in the UK and Africa by having her operation sponsored.

Orlakatie attends St Kevin’s Primary and for Red Nose Day her chums at ADV Dance Academy will join her in a red- themed danceathon at the Coatbridge studio tomorrow ( Thursday) to help her raise as much money as possible.

L i s a Ma r i e said: “She approached the dance school with her idea and they were happy to get on board. She is over the moon and so excited.”

Orlakatie has been a member of the school since it opened seven years ago.

A school spokesperson said: “Orla is a bubbly, enthusiastic member who has a passion for helping others. We were delighted when she asked us to help support her and raise vital funds for such an amazing cause.

“Members across all classes will be encouraged to actively take part.

“And we will be changing our class colours from our much-loved ADV blue to red for the night and all those taking part will donate £1.

“We are very proud of Orla and all she has achieved in helping raise funds for this fantastic charity.”

Local business Catch the Glitter Bug are hosting a £2 bonus ball raffle on Facebook with a framed picture for the winner and Definitive Detailing Scotland have donated a car valet voucher.

The youngster and her mum are also hoping the people of Monklands will again dig deep in helping her to smash her fundraising target.
