Sharing stage with stars is a real dream come true

-

One of my wishes at the start of the year – I call them wishes rather than resolutions – was to work with as many creative people as possible.

Well, I have to say that, given we are only in March, my wish has already come true – and then some!

I was fortunate enough to perform at Allan Stewart’s Big Big Variety Show at the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh earlier this month and I have to tell you it was incredible.

Allan is such an amazing all-rounder – singer, comedian, impressionist, the veteran entertainer can do it all and has been for decades.

The bill was a who’s who of Scottish talent, from 70s pop band Pilot “whoa, whoa, whoa, it’s magic”, to Grant Stott and even Susan Boyle, who made a surprise appearance and was so much fun backstage.

I mentioned Allan’s impersonating skills earlier, well I’ll tell you what, Subo does a hilarious turn as her former Britain’s Got Talent mentor, Simon Cowell. I was in stitches. Another woman on top form was North Lanarkshire’s very own Elaine C Smith, who had the audience in the palm of her hand throughout her time on stage. What a voice and so funny. We were having a chinwag backstage about Monklands and Elaine told me she often shops at the Faraday retail park in Coatbridge and spends a bit of time in Airdrie too as her sisters own a hairdressers there.

She was so down to earth and fabulous.

Just ma type of wummin!
