Mum the pop picker

-

With Mother’s Day almost upon us I don’t know about you but I think it’s hard to buy the right gift these days – especially if your mum still has Christmas presents unopened from 2010, and tells you she’s kept last year’s card so you don’t have to buy one this time round.

So, as a nice surprise, I thought I’d give Mags a present money can’t buy.

Since I had two shows for the South Lanarkshire Young At Heart Festival (a week of activities aimed at senior citizens), I thought I’d let her be my musical director and pick the songs she loves me to perform.

Well, as expected she didn’t disappoint. Her first choice was the Josh Groban number You Raise Me Up.

After Westlife did it I went off it a bit, but since it was a Mother’s Day present I felt obliged.

Also on Mags’shortlist was Bring Him Home from Les Mis; Never Never Land; You Don’t Bring Me Flowers (a duet I do solo) and anything from The Sound of Music.

As it turns out You Raise Me Up was the most popular , with everyone telling me how much they loved it. The audience – mostly made up of people from Coatbridge – were brilliant.

I was so thankful they came all that way but did mention Primark was just round the corner and they would get a full rig out for £3.50!

I did feel flattered that so many people came from my hometown to support me and have promised to do a show later in the year nearer home. Look out Airdrie Town Hall!.

To all the mums out there (including my own), I hope you get spoiled and that you continue to raise your family up.
