An Airdrie dance troupe showed star quality at a Dublin competition.

Youngsters from the Pamela Logan School of Dance took part in the Emerald Open.

The girls and their instructors hosted race and movie nights, a book sale and bag packing fundraisers to enable amily and friends to travel to support them.

More than 30 dancers from the South Bridge Street studio, the only Scottish school invited to take part, competed against Irish and Icelandic talent last month in the ballroom, Latin and hip hop competition.

Lesley Winning, whose daughter Regan took part, told the Advertiser: “She was so excited. Altogether they raised £ 5400 so that they could pay for everybody’s flights and accommodation.

“They were up against some tough competition.”

The 14-year-old Caldervale High pupil has been passionate about dance since the age of just six.

She said: “It was great, I really enjoyed taking part. I love doing hip hop the best.”

The Monklands group took second place in the hip hop category out of over 100 youngsters aged 9-15.

Pamela L oga n said: “The children have done exceptionally well.

“I and both of my qualified teachers decided to try and fundraise for 42 of us to experience and enjoy the event and to pay for everyone’s flights and accommodation.

“It was a huge well done to all the girls who brought the silverware home, not only for the school but for their country. I’m so proud of them.

“We’ve already been invited back to next year’s Emerald Open and are really looking forward to competing there once again.”
