Trump tie tale and prize-winning pooch capture the imagination of our readers

-

The front-page story in last week’s Advertiser told the remarkable tale of how a tie once owned by US President Donald Trump ended up selling for £6200 at a charity night in Chapelhall.

The plush, silk gold neckwear, donated to the fundraiser by local couple Sandy and Cathy Aitken, was bought by two kindhearted local businessmen who dug deep into their pockets to come out on top in a thrilling bidding war.

The incredible turn of events captured the imagination of our Facebook readers, with Wilma Dixon saying: “Well done to the couple who were kind enough to put it forward for charity... and a big thank you to the local businessmen who paid £6200 for it; this is what you call a win-win situation. And Chapelhall has made the headlines too!”

Clara McGivern hailed Sandy and Cathy, who were given the tie while on a cruise in Australia by an American judge and former associate of Mr Trump, for their generosity: “Aww, well done. What a lovely couple.”

Peter Locke added: “It’s a great story and great to bid for things knowing they are going to charity. Well done.”

Sara Shields posted: “Probably the only thing that Trump has come in handy for!”

Also winning the approval of the Advertiser’s Facebook readers was Caldercruix dog lover Angela Brown, who took the lead at Crufts when her Yorkshire Terrier Argyle scooped a top award.

The prize-winning pooch, aged just two-and-a-half, was rated as very highly commended by judges at the world’s largest dog show.

Anne Deacon passed on her congratulations: “Well done Angela!”

Linda Bell said: “That’s you famous now, Angela!”

Alex Brown added: “Congratulations to Angela and Argyle.” Isabel Russell posted: “Well done.” Cheryl Wilcox commented: “Fantastic achievement. Angela must be very proud of her wee dog.”
