FIRE US UP THE TABLE

Young urges strikers to grab goals that will secure survival

- Mark Pirie

Darren Young believes Albion Rovers have the firepower to avoid the drop into League Two.

The Cliftonhill boss was speaking ahead of his side’s relegation six-pointer against Stenhousemuir — and called for his strikers to shoot the side to safety.

The Coatbridge outfit travel to Ochilview Park to face the Warriors, who sat bottom of the League One table ahead of their game in hand against Livingston.

Following their first clean sheet since the start of January in the goalless draw against Peterhead, player/ manager Young has called for his attacking players to grab the goals to keep them in the division.

“We have been finding clean sheets hard to come by, so the Peterhead game gives us something to build on,” he told the Advertiser. “The way things have been going we can take that forward.

“You want to be difficult to break down and then hope you can nick a couple of goals that way.

“We have the firepower there with players like Ross Stewart, Paul Willis, Ryan Wallace, Calum Ferguson — when he is fit — and lots of other guys.

“We need to be putting it in the net and I’m confident the boys can do that.” Despite a comfortable 4-0 early season win against Stenhousemuir, Rovers have found Ferguson Brown’s men a difficult proposition.

Young admits it will be a tough game with both teams fighting for survival.

“Stenny will be a tough one to break down,” he said.

“We won the first game against them this season 4- 0, but they have shown us that they can be tough to score against and take their chances when they come.

“It won’t be an easy game but we know that the boys have the quality to leapfrog some of the teams above us.”

Young believes his players are due a slice of good fortune — and he hopes it comes this weekend.

“It’s a matter of getting the breaks at this time of the season,” he added.

“Every other team in the league seems to have been able to go on a wee run, so it would be a good time for us to do the same.

“The last quarter of the season is going to be crucial for us.”
