Food giveaway
Surplus food from the Tesco Express store in Kirkwood is to be distributed to charities.
The supermarket is extending its Community Food Connection programme to include the Woodside St reet store, meaning unsold fruit, vegetables, baked goods, meat and cheese will be offered free to local organisations.
Groups can register at www. fareshare. org. uk/ fareshare- foodcloud to benefit.
Supermarket officials say the move “will significantly extend the number of charities reached and the number of meals given to people in need”.
Organisations benefiting from the existing nationwide programme, which was established a year ago, include homeless shelters, substance abuse rehabilitation services, afterschool clubs, foodbanks and domestic violence refuges.
