Theatre helps transition
Senior pupils at five Monklands primaries took part in an interactive theatre production to help guide them through the transition to secondary school.
Youngsters from P6 and P7 classes at St Monica’s in Coatbridge and Airdrie schools Chapelha l l , Clarkston, Greengairs and New Monkland joined in with Baldy Bane theatre company’s presentation of The Journey.
They were able to stop the play at any point to question the behaviour and actions of the characters, suggest different ways of handling road safety situations, and even become characters themselves and join in.
Sponsored by Road Safety Scotland and organised by the road safety section at North Lanarkshire Council, the performance aimed to highlight “dangers [pupils] could be exposed to during early secondary years, and help them balance correct and safe options with pressures encouraging them to rebel”.
