School hits right note for anniversary
Special concert marks 50 years
A golden celebration at St Augustine’s Primary saw appearances from musical icons including Michael Jackson, Oasis and the Spice Girls.
Pupils from the Coatbridge school perfectly re- created some of the superstars’ finest hits during the Blast from the Past musical showcase marking the school’s 50th anniversary.
The whole school was involved in finding out about achievements and milestones from the past five decades as part of their studies and took a thrilled audience packed with family and friends on a nostalgic journey through time.
The newly-formed school choir gave their first public performance to open the show – and were so at home on stage they looked like they’d been singing together for years.
Their wonderful turn set everyone up for an evening to remember as pupils showed off their singing and dancing skills.
A St Augustine’s Primary spokesperson said: “The audience were entertained with performances by the infant classes that included songs by Justin Bieber, S Club 7 and Steps and had barely got their breath back when out came the Spice Girls and Oasis!
“Everyone’s feet were tapping wildly when it was the turn of our very own dance troupe to come to the stage and present a pulsating routine to a medley of Michael Jackson hits.
“Primary Six pupils then gave everyone a countdown through the 1970s and it was then left to primary seven to bring the evening to a close in style with a wonderful rendition of Petula Clark’s 60s hit Downtown.
“There were memorable performances from every pupil and they proved there is plenty of talent at St Augustine’s.
“It was a very fitting way to help mark the school’s 50th anniversary year.”
