Bleed for This (15)

The remarkable true story of boxer Vinny Pazienza, who made an astonishing comeback after breaking his neck, seems ripe for the retelling.

What a shame, then, that numerous sporting movie clichés are utilised to bring this tale to the screen.

Take a sprinkling of Raging Bull and Million Dollar Baby and mix it in with Rocky and you get Bleed for This.

That’s not to say the cast don’t pack a punch; Miles Teller nails the lead role and makes for a likeable double act with a barely recognisable Aaron Eckhart’s trainer.

The filming of the accident that caused Pazienza’s injury is brutally memorable and there’s no sugarcoating of his rehab and against all the odds journey back to the ring.
