Tough test for holders
Holders Caldervale High School will face Airdrie Academy in the semi- final of the United Schools Cup after Airdrie’s dramatic derby win.
St Andrew’s High and St Ambrose also secured their place in the final four, with games to be played tomorrow (Thursday) at the Excelsior Stadium.
The tournament got underway with an all-Airdrie battle between St Margaret’s and Airdrie Academy.
St Margaret’s raced into a two-goal lead with a James Jarvie double but a goal from Adam McGowan and a doubles from both Ben Ross and Aiden Gibb put the Academy on top.
Jarvie completed his hat- trick but it was only a consolation for St Margaret’s in the 5-3 defeat.
St Ambrose produced a dominant display over Coatbridge High, with Ben O’Brien the hero of the day with a hat-trick in the 11-1 win.
Free-scoring St Ambrose had set the bar high but were nearly matched by St Andrew’s against Chryston High.
Liam Airns grabbed three goals in the 9-1 thumping to secure their place in the next round.
Caldervale will face their Airdrie rivals at 9.45am and St Andrew’s will play St Ambrose at 11.10am
The event is organised by the Airdr ieonians Supporters Trust every year.
