Social club Activities this week include Sunday night bingo, with tickets on sale from 8pm and eyes down at 8.30pm. The Lucky Joker draw is made at 8.30pm on Sundays, with tickets on sale from committee members and bar staff. For further informatio­n on all of the above see the club notice board.

Easter egg hunt The children’s committee are holding an Easter egg hunt to entertain kids of the village on Sunday, April 9. The event starts at 2pm in the social club, although may be held outside if the weather permits. Parents are encouraged to boil eggs and the kids can then decorate them. Every child will have to try and find hidden eggs and there will also be an egg painting competitio­n. The kids will all receive golden coins and egg prizes. The final date for applicatio­n forms has now passed.

Da Capo music group Anyone interested in learning the flute or drums is welcome to attend the group’s band practice on Mondays at the congre-

gational church hall on Broomknoll Street from 6pm to 9pm. Contact John on 07525 064303 for further details on the group.

Marching band Baillies Lane Flute Band practice sessions take place on Tuesdays in the social club from 7pm to 9pm; flute and drum learners are welcome to attend. The Sunday practice has come to an end.

Back Brae Gospel Hall The Sunday school sessions run from 2.30pm to 3.15pm. The breaking of the bread takes place on Sundays at 11am. The evening gospel meeting is held at 6.30pm every Sunday, except the last Sunday of the month when the service runs from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. A prayer and Bible reading is also held every Wednesday from 7.30pm to 9pm.

Toddlers’ trip The Greengairs Mothers’ and Toddlers’ group will be visiting Amazonia at Strathclyd­e Park today; transport and lunch will be provided by the parents.

Drop-in cafe A community drop-in cafe opens at the parish church on Tuesday, April 4, from 1pm to 3pm. Tea, coffee, juice and home baking will be supplied. Future cafes will be held on the first and third Tuesdays of every month at the same time.

Miners’ memorial The Stanrigg Miners’ Memorial is open to all who wish to visit. July 9 next year will mark 100 years since 19 miners lost their lives in the disaster and anyone who would like to commemorat­e the anniversar­y can call 01236 830637.

Councillor’s surgery Councillor Sophia Coyle will hold a surgery in the village community hall on Wednesday, April 26, from 6pm to 6.30pm.
