A popular classic car event is returning to Summerlee museum this month.

Car enthusiast and proud vintage vehicle owner Joe Kelly is running his ninth annual classic car celebration at the Coatbridge museum on Sunday, April 23, from 11am to 4pm.

Around 100 cars from yesteryear will be on display at the free event, which is now a regular fixture on the Monklands calendar each spring.

It will also include family activities include face painting, raffles and a tombola.

Glenboig man Joe, 73, who runs Gartcosh Classic and Sport Car Club, said; “Cars from across the country will be joining us; it’s an event which just gets bigger and better every year.”

All proceeds will once again go to benefit the C h i l d r e n ’ s Hos p i c e Association Scotland, and Joe added: “I thoroughly enjoy organising the classic car event, especially to help such a good cause.”

Fellow enthusiasts are invited to feature their own vintage motors at the event, for a fee of £3 per car; places must be booked in advance by contacting Joe on 07721 875095.

Summerlee’s museums manager Lu McNair told how the industrial heritage venue is looking forward to welcoming the wellestablished annual event, saying: “The classic car day is always a great day out for all the family.

“There are lots of activities to keep the kids entertained, while Summerlee also has its heritage tram, mine tours, play park and exhibition hall, so there’s something for everyone.”
