Package deals that boost bank balances
North Lanarkshire Council’s annual accounts for 2015-16 detail the remuneration packages for senior existing and former employees.
The document reveals that Alistair Crichton’s total package was £462,284.
This included a salary of £123,959 and“compensation for loss of office”of £338,325 for the ex-finance and customer services boss.
Former environmental services executive director Kenneth Wilson earned £324,727, comprising a salary of £102,048 and loss of office compensation of £222,679.
And former housing and social work supremo Duncan Mackay’s compensation for losing his job was £217,181, which when combined with his salary of £123,910, totalled £341,091.
Former executive director of corporate services, June Murray, was the other senior employee to receive six-figure loss of office compensation. Ms Murray picked up £168,894, which, along with her £123,910 salary, resulted in a financial package of £292,804.
The local authority’s annual accounts also show nine other six-figure“exit packages”were agreed last year, each costing between £100k and £150k and totalling more than £1million.
Meanwhile, other six-figure salary recipients included former chief executive Gavin Whitefield, who received £108,315 until he left his role in October 2015.
Andrew Sutherland, the former executive director of learning and leisure services who resigned in February last year amid a row over inaccurate teacher numbers, received £116,415.
And former North Lanarkshire Leisure chief executive Blane Dodds, who also resigned last year in search of a“fresh challenge”, picked up £101,246 for his services.
