Hearn: He’s come back from worse
Eddie Hearn has backed Ricky Burns to come back from losing his unification clash with Julius Indongo.
The promoter felt that Scotland’s first threeweight world champion would make a return to the top level – just like he did in 2014.
Hearn believed that the loss to Dejan Zlaticanin for the WBC lightweight title three years ago was much harder to take.
Heard said:“Where he came back from before is about ten levels below where we are now.
“The Dejan Zlaticanin fight felt like the end of the world but this time he lost a unification fight to a very good world champion, so if he can come back from the Dejan Zlaticanin defeat he can definitely come back from this.”
He admitted they would have to get the next fight right to keep Burns on the up – with Glasgow and American dates in his mind.
He continued:“We don’t need an excuse to come to Glasgow, capacity-wise that was close to the biggest we have done in Scotland.
“The atmosphere was unbelievable but we do still need those new breeds of fighters coming through.
“But Ricky has got a name that can box on pay-per-view and under -cards across the world
“We’re not sitting here desperate for a big fight in America but we’ll put the net out and see who wants to offer a fight.
“What we don’t want to do is have another loss before that next big fight for a world title.”
