Drunk swore at pub staff

-

A drunk who verbally abused staff at a busy Coatbridge pub and challenged other customers to a fight has been placed under supervision.

David Doyle will also have to carry out unpaid work following his drunken tirade at The Vulcan on January 8.

The 48-year-old, of Coatbridge, had been drinking at the Main Street pub in the afternoon when he began acting in a threatening and abusive manner after being refused further alcohol.

Doyle, from Coathill Street, shouted and swore, refused to leave and spouted abuse at members of staff.

He pled guilty at Airdrie Sheriff Court and was back for sentencing last week.

Procurator fiscal Yolande Love told the court:“The accused was in the pub at 4.50pm with another male.

“He tried to buy another drink and spoke to the bar staff. He was intoxicated so was refused.

“The accused became aggressive and started to shout‘Do I speak Polish?’in an aggressive manner.

“He shouted at a female member of staff,‘respect me, respect me’, and was warned that the police would be called and other customers tried to reason with him.

“The accused continued in an aggressive manner and challenged other customers to fight.

“Police attended and the accused was standing outside the main door intoxicated.

He was cautioned and charged and made the reply‘If I done it I done it’.”

Doyle’s solicitor told the court his client had apologised for his actions.

Sheriff Morag Galbraith put Doyle under supervision for a year and ordered him to do 80 hours of unpaid work.
