Drug order for theft bid

-

A would-be thief from Sikeside has been placed under a drug treatment and testing order after being caught hanging around two Rawyards properties on the same day.

It was inferred that Christopher Bonner intended to commit thefts when he was discovered at the Woodend Drive and Airdriehill Street premises on January 12.

Cumbrae Place resident Bonner owned up to both charges and sentence was deferred to allow an assessment of his suitability for a drug treatment and testing order.

Bonner, 28, appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court last week, when defence solicitor Paul Belardo said the second stage of the assessment had been carried out and the social work department was “prepared to work with him on the order”.

Sheriff Morag Galbraith informed Bonner: “This is not an easy order but are you prepared to do a drug treatment and testing order for 15 months?”

When he agrees Bonner was told he would face the first review of his order on May 19.

Sentence was also further deferred on another two offences committed last year.

Bonner was caught with cannabis resin at the Whittington Street police station in Coatbridge on June 26.

Six months later he broke bail conditions by failing to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court as scheduled on December 29.

Bonner pleaded guilty to both of those charges and Sheriff Galbraith ordered him to be of good behaviour until he returns to court next month.

Admonished over outburst

Outrageous behaviour at Monklands Hospital, including making homophobic remarks and violent threats, led to a lout being admonished in court.

Andrew Carnegie also repeatedly shouted and swore, placing others at the hospital in a state of fear and alarm, on November 26.

The 28-year-old, of Crookston in Glasgow, pled guilty at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

When he returned to the dock last week his solicitor said sentence had been deferred to allow Carnegie to prove he could be of good behaviour.

Procurator fiscal Yolande Love told the court: “The bail report is clear and there are no new matters.”

Sheriff Morag Galbraith told Carnegie: “You have done as I asked of you so you are admonished and dismissed.”

Double assault

A Chapelhall thug kicked a man on the head before booting a police officer on the body.

Dale Gray strck the man and spat at him at his Porters Lane home on December 11 last year.

When police attended the scene Gray turned his aggressive attention on a male cop by kicking him on the body before being placed under arrest.

The unruly twenty- three- yearold pleaded guilty to both attacks at Airdrie Sheriff Court and was due to be sentenced last week.

But Sheriff Morag Galbraith revealed background reports had not been completed in time. Gray was not to blame for the delay.

Sheriff Galbraith then deferred sentencing until May 27.

She hit out at parked vehicle

A Whifflet woman who repeatedly kicked and punched a car in an ill- tempered outburst has been admonished.

Julie Linden, 39, targeted the vehicle while it was parked on Coatbridge Main Street and her conduct spilled over into nearby Locks Street.

She placed other members of the public in a state of fear and alarm by shouting and swearing.

Her foul-mouthed rant came to an end when police placed her under arrest.

Linden, of Calder Street, admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner and a period of deferral was ordered to allow her to show she could stay out of trouble.

At Airdrie Sheriff Court last week procurator fiscal Yolande Love revealed Linden’s good behaviour report was “clear”.

Sheriff Morag Galbraith told Linden: “You have done as you were asked so you are admonished.”

Cannabis case continuation

A man caught with cannabis at his Coatbridge home faces a further wait to discover his punishment.

Kevin Cannon was found in possession of the class B drug at the Maxwell Place property on November 10.

The 34-year-old owned up to the offence at Airdrie Sheriff Court and a period of deferral followed to allow for reports into his background.

He was back in the dock last week but the reports on Cannon’s character were not available, due to a delay at the court’s social work department.

Sheriff Morag Galbraith told Cannon sentence was being further deferred until May 17 for the reports to be completed.
