Young and old shine

-

The Airdrie and District Dart League ran competitions for the seniors, youths and ladies sections this week.

In the fifth renewal of the Derek Cunningham Youth Development Tournament , Workmen’s A star man Lee Barber will have a chance to make it three wins in the tournament after he reached the final.

His age will mean it is the last time he can play, but he is looking forward to it after a win over previous runner up Sam Bremner. He will still have to beat Bank Social Club youngster Robert O’Donaghue who got the better of Alex Dow in a close contest.

The Ladies had a limited entry and it will be a family affair in the final as mother Tuney Pearson and daughter Laura battle it out. Laura will be hot favourite in this but both have done The Albert Bar proud.

The Kenny Watters Memorial Seniors produced a more competitive event with many big names now over 50.

The first semi-final brought together Phil McBride of Carsons and Gerry Brown of The Workmen’s B.

In the best of five semi-final Brown got off to a good start with a 16-darter but McBride was in great form and came back with a brace of 17’s and then a 19-darter to stun Brown and reach the final.

In the other tie Jim McGeary of Carsons tackled Jim Walker of The Boar’s Head.

McGeary showed skill as he won three legs with less than 20 darts.
