Tunnock’s backing is so sweet for Maggie’s

Confectionery firm supporting Kitchen Table Day

- Judith Tonner

Maggie’s has some celebrity support for its annual “kitchen table day” this Friday, thanks to confectionery firm Tunnock’s.

Cur rently match- funding donations to the Lanarkshire centre at Monklands Hospital, the company was inspired to extend its support for the cancer caring charity to a national level.

The company donated 500 of its limited-edition tea towels to offer to the first 500 people across the country who registered to take part in the May 5 fundraiser.

It invites families, friends and colleagues to get together round their kitchen tables for events ranging from afternoon tea or a bake-off to book groups and quiz nights, while donating the proceeds to Maggie’s.

Boyd Tunnock, the company’s managing director, said: “We’ve supported our local centre in Lanarkshire for many years and regularly see how people living with cancer in our community really benefit from the fantastic, professional support offered.

“When we heard Maggie’s was launching a nationwide event to gather friends and family around a table to raise money for the charity, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to take our support further across the UK.”

Tunnock’s is c u r rent l y supporting Maggie’s Lanarkshire by match funding all donations made to the Airdrie centre this spring, up to a total of £50,000, in the Thomas Tunnock challenge – named after the firm’s founder.

Donations can be made at the Airdrie centre or at www. maggiescentres.org/how-you-canhelp/ quoting “Thomas Tunnock matched giving challenge.”

Centre head Lorrie Forsyth said: “This is such a wonderful pledge, doubling every penny we receive in donations and making every gift we receive go twice as far.”

Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional and social support for people with cancer and their loved ones. For more information on its busy programme of workshops and advice, visit the centre or call 01236 771191.
