Violent thug attacked cops after making threats to ex

-

A vicious thug attacked two Coatbridge cops who turned up on his doorstep after he made a chilling phone call to his ex-partner.

Robert Carr has been placed under supervision following his violent actions on March 29.

The foul-mouthed 47-year-old had earlier called his ex-partner – who lived in Coatbridge – and swore at her before making offensive remarks and callous violent threats.

The terrified woman then contacted the police who made their way to Carr’s Hamilton home.

When the officers confronted Carr over his sinister phone call, he turned on them and headbutted a male constable.

Carr then pushed a female officer on the body, to her injury, before eventually being placed under arrest.

He owned up to making the disturbing phone call to his ex and both assaults during an appearance at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

Background reports were ordered and Carr made his way back into the dock last week for sentencing.

Defence solicitor Jason Stark told the court his client was apologetic and “remorseful” for his actions and made the case for a community-based punishment.

Sheriff Morag Shankland chose to impose a community payback order on Carr that will see him under supervision for the next year and told him this order was“a direct alternative to custody”.
