Road closure advice

Diversions in place

- Ian Bunting

Monklands motorists are being advised the M74 southbound link road to northbound M73 is completely closed for the next three weeks.

These works are part of the final phases of the £500m M8, M73 and M74 motorway improvements project and will allow all lanes to open in the coming weeks.

Transport Scotland is urging drivers to avoid the area and to use alternative modes of transport wherever possible.

Where this is not possible, drivers are being asked to plan their journey using alternative routes, use the M8 via the Kingston Bridge and to visit the Transport Scotland and Tra f f i c Scotland websites for details.

The closure means there will be no access from the southbound M74 to the northbound M73.

Signed diversions will be in place for the following journeys:

• M74 southbound to M73 northbound: via southbound M74 to Junction 5 (Raith), northbound A725 to Shawhead, westbound A8 to Junction 8 (Baillieston), Swinton roundabout to M73 northbound

• M74 southbound to A8: via southbound M74 to Junction 5 ( Raith), northbound A725 to Shawhead to A8 eastbound and westbound

• M74 southbound to M8 eastbound: via southbound M74 to Junction 5 (Raith), northbound A725 to Shawhead to M8 eastbound

• M74 southbound to M8 westbound: via southbound M74 to Junction 5 (Raith), northbound A725 to Shawhead, westbound A8 to M8 Junction 8 (Baillieston) to M8 westbound.
