Unbridled joy as pub becomes charity champ and rescued surfer back home

-

Well-earned praise has been given to Coatbridge pub the Segton Bar after it donated more funds to a national charity helping soldiers who have fallen on hard times than any other pub in Scotland.

Leading the pub in raising thousands of pounds for Soldiers Off The Street is charity champion Tam McWhinnie, 57, who has spent 20 years doing his bit to aid those who have served their country in the military.

Shirley McMillan congratulated the Segton Bar on their selfless achievement: “Superb. They are doing an amazing job for servicemen and women who have fought for their country.”

Ann Mansfield agreed: “Well done Tam McWhinnie and all the staff at the Segton Bar. All their funds are going to a well worthy cause.”

Sharlene Boyle said: “Well done; continue your support.”

Lynn Fingland Steele added her appreciation: “Well done to all involved, such a brilliant cause.”

Trevor Simmons posted: “It’s brilliant to know there are people out there doing all they can for charity; fantastic work everyone!”

Moving on to another heartwarming story, our Facebook readers welcomed the news Airdrie surfer Matthew Bryce has been discharged from hospital after making a remarkable recovery from a 30-hour ordeal in the North Channel.

Matthew, 23, was stranded on his surfboard when he was plucked from the water by a rescue helicopter, drifting towards the Atlantic Ocean from the Kintyre coast.

Lorna McConnachie was delighted that Matthew was back home: “Fantastic news. Hope you all have some time to yourselves now and can relax.”

Dana Cozzari said: “Welcome home. I’m sure you’ll be well looked after by everyone now. Very lucky boy.”

Jim Millar added: “Great news for him and his family.”
