Workmen stuck on bottom of the table Eagles defeat lose them more points

- Mark Pirie

Workmen’s A were unable to get off bottom spot in the table after defeat to The Eagle.

Any resurgence for The Workmen’s A in the Airdrie and District Darts League was short-lived after their match at home to The Eagle.

The team were still harbouring thoughts of not finishing with the wooden spoon and the Workies A boys gave it all they had.

They even led their visitors 5-3 at the break.

In a match that failed to border on spectacular the away side grinded out the four pairs games leaving the A Squad snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Even a draw should have been banked, but several missed doubles in the last match allowed The Eagle to take the points.

But all is not lost for The Workmen’s A as the Albert Bar failed to take anything from their home match with Wilson Arms.

With the last week of League fixtures to come the Albert Bar travelled to play a double header and need at least a draw from one of the games to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.

Wilson’s victory means they have now escaped any chance of receiving the unwanted trophy.

There was an exciting encounter at The Boar’s Head with decent performances from both sides as the Bank Social Club made their visit.

Kris Ross was on the mark for the visitors with a 15-darter and a 101 checkout in a match that could have went either way but some good throwing from the Boar’s Head kept the points at home.

Ross Walker was on the mark with a 20-dart win while dad Jim netted an 18 and a 20 which included a 94 escape.

Tom Walker got a 180 while John Swan got home in 21-darts and two points for the visitors.

Champions Carsons were on tour in Caldercruix and did not have to be anywhere near their best to beat The Clansman.

The hosts would have been looking to put up a better challenge than this on their own patch.

The Workmen’s B hosted The Swan and the first match between Paddy Sweeney and Jim Parker of The Swan got the night off to a flyer.

In the best of three match Parker hit a 15-darter with a 115 checkout. Sweeney replied with an 18 and Parker took the spoils with another 15-dart win.

After that The Swan failed to add to their total and were soon trailing 6-1 before taking the last singles match.

However, a very poor performance in the pairs games meant it was an easy win in the end for the home side.
