£130,000 deal done

- Court reporter

An Airdrie drug dealer who was jailed in 2015 has been hit with a massive £130,000 confiscation order under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

John Shaw, 52, admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis at his home in School Quadrant, Rochsoles, and on Whifflet Street in Coatbridge.

He was snared by drugs squad officers in August, 2015 and jailed for two years the following December by Sheriff Morag Galbraith. Shaw’s sentence was reduced because of his early plea.

Defence lawyer Luke O’Curry told Airdrie Sheriff Court last week that the amount of the confiscation had been settled jointly between the defence and the Crown.

Sheriff Petra Collins ordered Shaw to hand over the six-figure sum in full by November 17. An enforcement order was not put in place by the court.
