Weekend police calls fall after action on anti-social problems

Coatbridge police, with the help of residents, initiated a weekend crackdown on youth disorder.

Following numerous complaints from members of the public relating to antisocial behaviour and drug taking in Coatbank Way, police implemented an action plan.

Inspector Louise Brownlie said: “As a result of this there was a significant reduction in the number of calls made to police over the weekend and two young males were reported for possession of drugs.”

Plain- clothes officers also targeted troublesome youths drinking and causing disorder in Townhead over the weekend.

Inspector Brownlie added: “The officers focused on adults who were purchasing alcohol for underage teenagers.

“This resulted in offences being detected and a number of seizures of alcohol.
