Hospice gets cash boost

- Judith Tonner

St Andrew’s Hospice is one of three charities to benefit from the fundraising efforts of housing staff at North Lanarkshire Council.

Workers raised a grand total of £3636, to be split between the Airdrie good cause, Alzheimer Scotland and the Beatson Cancer Charity, whose work includes supporting radiotherapy patients at the Lanarkshire Beatson at Monklands Hospital.

The latter good cause was chosen in memory of Eilidh McHugh – the daughter of council head of housing Elaine McHugh – following her tragic passing.

Funds were raised through coffee mornings, home baking, dress-down days, lunches and even a“guess the baby”competition.

North Lanarkshire assistant chief executive Des Murray said:“These charities are all in desperate need of additional funding and everyone knows someone who has needed help from these wonderful organisations.

“Our teams were delighted to raise money to help look after those in need, and I’d like to say a huge well done to all our staff who have helped raise such fantastic sums of money.”
