Cup tie looms but not a priority

-

Drumpellier captain Gordon Shaw says the club have to prioritise this weekend’s league fixture against St Michael’s rather than their Scottish Cup tie.

The Coatbridge outfit face Greenock in the national competition on Sunday.

But after starting the season with two defeats and two rained off matches, Shaw says it is vital the club kickstart their league campaign.

He said: “Last season we were cup specialists and our league form never took off which ended up in us getting relegated.

“Another cup run would be nice but it is not what we are focusing on this weekend.

“We absolutely have to give ourselves a boost in the league and consolidate ourselves. We’ve lost a lot of players so that is our aim for this season – consolidation.

“To do that, we have to start winning matches.

“We’ve been unlucky at times so far this season but the weather is to be good this weekend so we must make sure we are ready to perform.”

The captain added: “We have a fete organised for Sunday which was in place before the Scottish Cup tie was announced.

“Hopefully the weather forecast is correct and we get people along to enjoy the day as well as cheer us on.

“It would be great to reach the last eight of the Scottish Cup, but it isn’t our most important match this weekend.”
