Displays prove the future’s bright for Diamond girls

- Andrew Bargh

The secretary of St Andrew’s netball club has praised three age groups for their performances at an end- ofseason tournament.

Nicola Lafferty, who also plays for the adult side St Andrew’s Diamonds, saw the club’s Under-15s claim second spot in a tri-team tournament which took place at Airdrie Academy on Sunday and involved Stirling netball club as well as fellow Monklands outfit ACES netball club.

The St Andrew’s Under- 13s won their age group while the Under-11s also performed to a high standard in the competition.

Nicola, 29, said: “We’re really proud of the performances put in by all the teams.

“It’s great to be able to give the players game time and see them enjoying themselves.

“At that age winning isn’t as important as getting out on the court and having fun.

“All the kids are competitive and want to win, but it’s not always about that.”

She added: “Some of the 15s will be moving up an age group to the 17s in the summer so it was nice for them to sign off by finishing in second.

“The pathway for us as a club is to keep developing the players as they progress.”

The club are having their presentation night for all age groups on Friday, June 16, in St Augustine’s Parish Centre.

Tickets cost £10 for a family of four, or £5 per adult and £3 per child.

Many awards will be given out on the night and there will be a DJ, raffle and buffet.
