Ready to welcome US club

-

The president of Airdrie Bowling Club, Murray Carr, has announced members of an American bowling society are to fly over for a special friendly match in Monklands.

Florida’s Mount Dora club are due to fly over in July and will pit their wits against the Airdrie club as part of a Scottish tour.

Eighteen bowlers are due to make the trip over, and Murray admitted he initially thought the phone call was a wind-up.

He said:“I initially thought it was a wind-up, as the organiser on their end is originally from England so she didn’t have an American accent.

“When she said they were coming over to Scotland and looking for a game I thought it was one of our members winding me up!

“But it turned out to be true enough; they are staying at the Tudor Hotel during their stay in Scotland and noticed our club was nearby.”

The 65-year-old went on:“Although it’s still a wee while away everyone at the club is really excited to welcome them. It’s something for us to look forward to; a friendly game during which we can socialise with people from half-way around the world.

“We’ll probably mix-up the teams and I’m going to get a souvenir pennant made for them to take home.

“Hopefully they enjoy their trip and we’ll do what we can to make it as memorable as possible.”
