Former Diamonds boss’ fundraising bid

- Mark Pirie

Former Airdrie boss Eddie Wolecki Black is aiming to raise £10,000 towards treatment in America.

The ex-Diamonds coach suffered a massive stroke during a game against Cowdenbeath last year, and did not return to the dugout at the Excelsior Stadium.

More than a year into his recovery, the 51-year-old is now attempting to raise money for treatment, travel, and accommodation as he heads to the US.

Coatbridge resident Wolecki Black hopes to improve his recovery with an anti-inflammatory drug called Etanercept, which is injected into spinal fluid while hanging upside down.

Paul Tramontanas, a personal friend of the former Diamonds boss, posted to the fundraising page:“Eddie Wolecki Black is working hard in his rehabilitation but recovery is slow.

“He is determined to live a long and fulfilling life with his young family.

“He also continues to pursue his career path to coach and manage at the elite level.

“There is a treatment in the US that has had profound effects on stroke victims’ recovery.

“Political analyst Andrew Marr has been a recipient of the treatment and has noted subtle changes and improvements if not as profound as others.

“We are asking those of you who know Eddie and would like to see him receive this treatment to make a donation to help him on his road to recovery.

“This treatment could be life changing.”
