Hospital staff recognised at health awards
Health workers from Monklands Hospital were among those honoured at NHS Lanarkshire’s second annual staff awards ceremony.
Dr Maximillian Peluso was a runner-up in the“outstanding individual in a clinical role” category, while Dr Gerard Picozzi of the Airdrie hospital’s ear, nose and throat department was a runner-up for the“outstanding care” award.
Further runners-up were Sam Clarke in the volunteer category for work in the emergency department and Airdrie-based occupational therapy worker Lynsey Drysdale, for service improvement.
Meanwhile, the health board’s innovation award went to the health records department, working across the county’s three acute hospitals, including Monklands, while the runners-up included the community health visiting team serving Muirhead and Condorrat.
The ceremony also included a commendation for staff in the ICT department for their“sterling work”during the recent ransomware cyber virus, which saw them work round the clock to restore vital systems. Almost 400 nominations were received for the ceremony, which featured writer, broadcaster and stand-up comedian Susan Morrison, and saw categories sponsored by Healthy Working Lives, Let’s Connect, NHS staff benefits, Unison and the Royal College of Nursing.
NHS Lanarkshire chief executive Calum Campbell said:“It was so uplifting and inspiring to read the amazing stories, examples, appreciation and respect that came through in the nominations received from patients, relatives, friends, colleagues and managers.
“The awards celebrate and recognise the achievements and excellent work of our staff and volunteers, and I’d like to express my appreciation for their outstanding work.”
